Revanth Reddy meets Congress top brass amid speculation
New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy today met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary in-charge of the party organisation K.C. Venugopal and discussed party affairs in the State. During his separate meetings with both leaders, Reddy touched upon several organisational issues as well as the likely performance of the Congress party in the just-concluded municipal elections, whose results will be announced on Friday.
Party sources said that the Chief Minister informed them that the Congress party is going to sweep the municipal elections in the State. For the last 10 days, Reddy led the party campaign in the prestigious municipal polls held for seven corporations and 116 municipalities. However, rival parties — BJP, BRS and AIMIM — put up a strong fight and are expected to win in their pockets of influence. All political parties took the municipal polls very seriously, spending huge amounts of money and involving their entire rank and file.
Significantly, the Chief Minister is reported to have raised the long-pending cabinet reshuffle irrespective of the outcome of the municipal election results. Many seniors are learnt to be sulking and feeling restless over the delay in cabinet expansion, as they believe it has been due for more than a year. It is not yet clear whether the high command has given the green signal for cabinet expansion, sources said. Reddy is also expected to meet Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi before he leaves for Hyderabad tonight.
The Chief Minister also visited Parliament to meet several Union Ministers to take up pending projects and financial assistance. Reddy was accompanied by several party MPs from the State, including floor leader Mallu Ravi, when they met Union Ministers. Reddy invited Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the inauguration of the Gandhi Sarovar project. Among other issues, Reddy took up matters related to Secunderabad Cantonment and other defence land disputes in the State with Rajnath Singh.
The Chief Minister also met Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and stressed the urgency of taking up six airports for expansion on a war footing. Warangal Mamunuru Airport should be taken up on priority, the Chief Minister’s delegation requested. Reddy also met other Ministers, including Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J.P. Nadda, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Water Resources Minister C.R. Patil, regarding pending issues.
