New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday appointed Manickam Tagore as the new president of the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee, bringing a leadership change to the party’s state unit with immediate effect.

The announcement was made by the party after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge approved Tagore’s appointment. Tagore will take charge from K Selvaperunthagai, who had been heading the Tamil Nadu Congress unit.

In its official communication, the party said that Kharge had appointed Manickam Tagore as the president of the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.

The appointment is seen as an important organisational move by the Congress in Tamil Nadu, where the party continues to focus on strengthening its cadre and expanding its political presence at the grassroots level.

Tagore, a senior Congress leader, is expected to play a key role in steering the party’s strategy in the state and coordinating with the organisation ahead of future political challenges.

K Selvaperunthagai, who now makes way for Tagore, had served as the chief of the state committee before the latest reshuffle.
