Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised a full probe into the Sabarimala gold loss case if the BJP comes to power in Kerala, vowing jail for those responsible while calling the upcoming elections a turning point for the state’s future.

PM Modi made the remarks in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram on Friday
Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a strong political and governance-related promise to the people of Kerala, stating that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the state, the alleged loss of gold from the Sabarimala temple will be thoroughly investigated and those responsible will be sent to jail.
Addressing a public gathering in Thiruvananthapuram, PM Modi said the issue of missing gold from the revered Sabarimala shrine would not be ignored under a BJP-led government. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he said assuring accountability and strict action in the matter.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid an ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala temple. The case relates to reported discrepancies involving gold used in the door frames of the sanctum sanctorum and the plates covering the dwarapalaka, or guardian idols.

Following the allegations, the Kerala High Court ordered a detailed probe, after which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kerala Police was formed to examine the matter. The issue has since escalated into a major political flashpoint in the state, with opposition parties demanding transparency and accountability.
Linking the controversy to the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, PM Modi said the polls would be crucial in determining the state’s future direction. “The upcoming elections will change the condition and direction of Kerala,” he said, urging voters to consider an alternative to the existing political choices.
The Prime Minister criticised both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing them of repeatedly failing the state. According to him, decades of governance by these two alliances have resulted in corruption, misgovernance, and what he described as politics of appeasement.
Positioning the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a “third option,” PM Modi said his party stands for development and clean governance. He claimed that the NDA would bring a new political culture to Kerala, focused on transparency, infrastructure growth, and public welfare.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also launched several development projects and flagged off new train services, reinforcing the BJP’s development-centric pitch ahead of the elections.
