Even as Congress General Secretray Randeep Surjewala is trying to pacify the warring factions, the state Congress continues to face intense internal pressure over the selection of candidate for the Davanagere South seat. The state Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan reportedly threatened to resign if the ticket was not allocated to a Muslim candidate.
Party sources said that Zameer Khan's threat has amplified community demands and put the party leadership in a difficult position. highlighting the growing influence of the Muslim electorate in the Constituency.
The Davanagere South seat , vacant following the death of senior leader Shamnur Shivshankarappa, has seen Muslim organisations urging the Congress to ensure fair representation for the community. Minister's insistence for a Muslim nominee reflects both electoral calculations and community expectations, making the selection a sensitive issue.
The negotiator Surjewala has sought to balance competing pressures, emphasising that the party high command would choose a candidate on merit and electoral viability rather than bowing to pressure from any single group.

The issue has got further complicated by internal family and organisational dynamics. The grandson of the late Shamanir( sitting MLA who died) has already filed his nomination paper without official ticket announcement and B-form.
