The accident took place on National Highway-48 near Gorlath Cross in Hiriyur taluk. The incident caused chaos in the area and severely disrupted traffic.
According to the police, a private sleeper coach bus traveling from Bengaluru to Gokarna collided head-on with a truck. The bus immediately caught fire after the collision, exacerbating the situation. Several passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident, undertaking a long-distance journey.

Preliminary information suggests that the truck, traveling from Hiriyur towards Bengaluru, suddenly lost control and crossed the road divider into the opposite lane. It then collided with the sleeper coach bus traveling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga. The impact was so severe that the bus sustained extensive damage.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police and emergency services rushed to the scene. The fire made relief and rescue operations extremely difficult. With the help of local residents, the injured were rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Police officials stated that the death toll is likely to rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition. Instructions have been given to provide the best possible treatment to all the injured, and a team of doctors is continuously monitoring their condition.
The initial police investigation suggests negligence on the part of the truck driver. It is suspected that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to lose control and cross the divider. However, a detailed investigation is still underway.
