Kerala Heavy Rainfall And Landslide: 8 Dead And 13 Injured, Govt Launches Rescue Operation

Heavy rainfall in Kerala has caused landslides and heavy destruction in the state. The CMO has confirmed the death of 8 people, and 13 are injured.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan stated on Sunday, 2 Aug 2026, that eight people have died, 13 people are injured, and around 8 people are missing due to heavy rain, which caused landslides, waterlogging, and property damage in several parts of the state.

In the official statement, CM further said that 27 houses were completely destroyed, 196 homes were partially damaged, and 5,792 people have been moved to the 209 relief camps set up across the state.
The CM office also issued a warning that despite a reduction in rainfall, people should be vigilant, particularly those who are living in the hilly areas.
He further said that the government will ensure assistance to the families of the deceased and those who have lost their homes and livelihood.
Satheesan said that with the subsiding or reduction in rainfall in many parts of the state, the administration has started relief and cleaning activities.
He urged members of political parties and voluntary organisations to participate in the cleaning activities and assured all support to the government.
Minister Anilkumar said that damaged roads have been restored for travel in many places, whereas in some areas there were restrictions on vehicular movements.
Political leaders from different parties have also expressed their concerns regarding the damage done due to heavy rainfall and landslide.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) also issued a warning regarding the possibility of huge waves of 2.7 to 3.5 meters height along the northern Kerala coast and advised fishermen as well as coastal residents to be vigilant.
