Chennai: M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and president of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), today signed a formal agreement to allot one Rajya Sabha seat to Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The agreement was signed at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in the presence of DMDK treasurer L.K. Sudheesh, symbolising renewed political cooperation between the two parties.

Alliance Consolidation Before 2026 Elections

The development formally brings DMDK, led by Premalatha Vijayakanth, into the DMK-led alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

This alliance shift is viewed as a strategic consolidation move aimed at strengthening the ruling bloc’s electoral position in a politically competitive state.

Historic Moment for DMDK

Founded by late actor-politician Vijayakanth, DMDK will, for the first time, secure representation in the Upper House of Parliament through this Rajya Sabha seat allocation.

The decision marks a milestone for the party, expanding its national-level political footprint.

Ongoing Seat-Sharing Talks

While the Rajya Sabha seat has been confirmed, negotiations regarding the number of Assembly seats to be allotted to DMDK for the 2026 elections remain underway. Political observers say these discussions will determine the broader structure of the alliance in the months ahead.
