SP MP Dharmendra Yadav backs special status for Andhra in Lok Sabha
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav on Wednesday spoke in the Lok Sabha during discussions on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, voicing support for Andhra Pradesh’s demand for special category status.
He said his party stands with the people of Andhra Pradesh and supports measures aimed at addressing their economic concerns.
During his speech, Yadav cautioned against the growing demand for creating smaller states. He argued that larger states tend to have greater access to resources and manpower, making them more self-sufficient and less reliant on the Centre.

He also suggested that dividing states may not always lead to better governance or development outcomes.
Yadav raised concerns about the Centre’s approach to newly formed states, stating that while incentives are often offered at the time of their creation, such support tends to diminish over time.
According to him, the withdrawal of assistance after a decade can negatively impact long-term development in these regions.
Reiterating his position, the SP leader expressed support for granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh, a demand that has been raised repeatedly since the state’s bifurcation.
He urged the government to consider the financial and developmental needs of the state in a sustained manner.

Yadav also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that people were being misled on key issues. He called on citizens to remain cautious and not be influenced by what he described as misleading claims.
The MP further highlighted concerns related to land acquisition, alleging that farmers in certain areas, including Ayodhya, had not received adequate compensation.

He demanded that farmers in Andhra Pradesh be given four times the compensation for land acquisition, stressing the need to protect their interests.
Yadav said the Samajwadi Party continues to support farmers and public concerns, and would raise such issues both inside and outside Parliament.
