Chennai: The newly formed Tamil Nadu government led by C Joseph Vijay on Saturday announced portfolio allocations for its council of ministers, marking the latest administrative step after the historic electoral victory of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

According to an official notification issued by the Tamil Nadu Lok Bhavan, portfolios were assigned to 10 ministers, including Chief Minister Vijay, who retained crucial departments such as home, police and public administration.

The actor-turned-politician was sworn in as chief minister earlier this month after TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections and secured support from alliance partners to form the government.

Vijay Retains Core Administrative Departments

Chief Minister Vijay will oversee public administration, general administration, police, women welfare and youth development.

In a notable policy shift, the new government has separated sports development into an independent ministry, unlike the previous structure under the DMK government where it functioned under a combined portfolio. The decision is being viewed as an effort to provide greater administrative focus on sports and youth-related initiatives.

Key Ministries Allocated to Cabinet Colleagues

Among the major appointments, Aadhav Arjuna has been given charge of the public works department along with sports development.

K. A. Sengottaiyan will handle the finance ministry, while K. G. Arunraj has been assigned the health portfolio.

CTR Nirmal Kumar will oversee energy resources and law, while Rajmohan has been allocated school education, information and publicity, Tamil development and archaeology.

The industries department has gone to S. Keerthana, while P. Venkataraman will handle food and civil supplies.

T. K. Prabhu has been assigned natural resources, and N. Anand will oversee rural development.

Major Political Shift in Tamil Nadu

The cabinet formation comes after TVK ended decades of alternating power between the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu politics.

The new government is expected to focus on governance reforms, youth-centric policies and administrative restructuring as it begins its first term in office.
