New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today met AICC general secretary and in-charge of party organisation K C Venugopal as well as general secretary in-charge of Telangana Randeep Surjewala and discussed the likely fallout on Telangana of the Karnataka revolt from the party MLAs after the cabinet expansion.
Sources said that Revanth Reddy was advised to ensure proper coordination with PCC and DCC units in the state and curb any kind of rebel activity. Since the Congress is an open and democratic party, there is every likelihood of dissatisfied leaders coming together and indulging in political lobbying and create instabilty in the party and government.
Since the Karnataka cabinet expansion rebels were in no mood to relent, the leadership is trying its best to undertake a damage control exercise and ensure normalcy is restored at the earliest.
During the day, the Chief Minister Reddy also met Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil and sought the Centre's intervention in resolving the issue of increasing the height of the proposed Tummalhatti project. State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and state MPs were also present during the meeting.
Revanth Reddy requested the Union Minister to facilitate discussions with the Maharashtra government to secure its approval for raising the project's height from the earlier agreed 148 metres to 150 metres. He informed C R Patil that Maharashtra had previously consented to a construction height of 148 metres and urged him to persuade the neighbouring state to agree to the revised proposal.
The Chief Minister explained that even if the project height is increased to 150 metres, the submergence area would remain below 1,000 hectares. He said the enhanced height would enable water to be supplied through gravity, eliminating the need for expensive lift irrigation and significantly reducing operational costs, according to an official statement.
