New Delhi: Apple is now preparing to fully usher its voice assistant, Siri, into a new era of artificial intelligence. After a long wait, the company is expected to introduce a new Siri equipped with Gemini AI in February 2026. According to reports, this update will be smarter, more intelligent, and capable of natural conversation than the current Siri. This is considered the first major outcome of the Apple and Google AI partnership.

Why was Siri's AI upgrade necessary?

Apple launched Siri in 2010 and was initially quite popular. However, with the rapid rise of generative AI in recent years, Siri has fallen behind tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. At WWDC 2024, Apple itself acknowledged the need for a next-generation Siri. However, technical difficulties with in-house AI models have repeatedly delayed this effort.

Why did it partner with Google Gemini?

Apple has chosen Google's Gemini AI to revitalize Siri. Reports suggest that Apple also held talks with OpenAI and Anthropic, but a deal failed to materialize due to cost and strategic considerations. The rapidly improving capabilities of Gemini models and favorable terms ultimately led Apple to partner with Google. Initially, Gemini-based features will run on Apple's private Cloud Compute servers, ensuring the company maintains control over user privacy.

Gemini-Powered Siri to Launch in February

Apple is expected to announce a new Siri in the third or fourth week of February. This update will arrive in beta with iOS 26.4 and could be rolled out to all users by March or April. This system, called Apple Foundation Models version 10, will contain approximately 1.2 trillion parameters. This will allow Siri to understand more context and provide better responses to users.

A true AI chatbot

The February update will certainly make Siri smarter, but it won't be a full-fledged chatbot. The real big change is expected during WWDC 2026 in June. According to reports, a chatbot-style Siri will launch with iOS 27, capable of long, natural, and interactive conversations like ChatGPT and Gemini. This new Siri will be based on Apple Foundation Model version 11 and will offer a faster, more accurate, and more user-friendly experience.
