India’s spin attack dominated Pakistan in the Asia Cup Final 2025, breaking crucial partnerships and restricting them to 146. Despite strong starts by Farhan and Fakhar, Pakistan’s middle order collapsed under pressure from Kuldeep, Axar, and Varun’s tight bowling.
India puts Pakistan on the back foot
Asia Cup Final 2025: While everybody had thought Bumrah would start the game, Shivam Dube came as a surprise to everyone. He started the innings and got hit for a four on the leg on by Farhan in his first over.
Then came Bumrah with his outswing, and Pakistan struggled a bit, but Farhan hit Bumrah for four at extra cover and kept targeting him in the next over by hitting a six and a four in a single over. Pakistan kept building the innings with Farhan’s exceptional batting.
After 4 overs of pace bowling, India came with its spin attack with Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel slowing down the run rate. At the end of the powerplay, Pakistan could only score 45-0 but geared up the innings by consistently scoring 9-10 runs in the next two overs against this spin duo. Fakhar joined Farhan, hit a six off Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju missed the stumping chance, and Fakhar completed his fifty in the 9th over.
Farhan was in no mood to show mercy to the Indian players. After hitting a six, he pulled a short ball to deep mid-wicket where Tilak Verma comfortably caught him. Farhan made 57 runs off 38 balls. Varun got India its first breakthrough in the 10th over. After Farhan's departure, Fakhar took up the responsibility and dealt in boundaries and sixes while maintaining Pakistan's run rate over 9 runs per over.
However, Kuldeep got another breakthrough by getting Ayub caught at backward point. Axar also got his first breakthrough in the very next over, getting India back to a comfortable position.
After this, India did not look back and got Fakhar Zaman soon too, who could not handle the pressure of falling wickets. Soon after, India got another fifth wicket. What pacers could not do, spinners did with their tight bowling attack and made Pakistan lose 7 wickets in the last 21 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav got Salman Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Faheem Ashraf in one over. Bumrah continued the strike and got his first wicket by knocking off the off stump of Haris Rauf, making Pakistan lose 8 wickets in the last 27 runs.
Pakistan somehow saved its last wicket for the final over. Pakistan was 146-9 after 19 overs. Pakistan was eventually bowled out for 146, with Bumrah picking up his second wicket. India restricted Pakistan to 146 and now needs 147 runs to win in 20 overs.
