Srinagar: Baramulla’s young sporting stars scripted a memorable chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s sports landscape by defeating Budgam in the final of the Under-17 Girls Inter-District Provincial-Level Kho-Kho Championship. The Under-17 Girls Inter-District Provincial-Level Kho-Kho Championship witnessed participation from 10 districts of Kashmir Province, providing a competitive arena for emerging sporting talent.
Conducted through a league-based format, the championship allowed every participating team to compete in four matches, ensuring valuable match exposure and helping players sharpen their skills against diverse opponents.
The tournament highlighted the essence of Kho-Kho as a sport built on speed, reflexes, endurance, anticipation and coordinated teamwork. Young athletes demonstrated impressive defensive formations, attacking strategies and quick decision-making abilities throughout the competition.

Alongside the thrilling title clash, Srinagar also delivered a notable performance by overcoming Kupwara in a closely contested encounter.

The championship was organised by the Department of Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Joint Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, Kashmir.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Anuradha Gupta, IAS, Director General, Youth Services & Sports, J&K.
District Baramulla carried the hosting responsibility for the prestigious provincial-level competition, with Higher Secondary School Doabgah providing the venue and infrastructure for the sporting contest.
The initiative reflects the department’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots sports ecosystems and create structured opportunities for young athletes across the Union Territory.
The closing ceremony brought together sports officials, education representatives, local community members and dignitaries to celebrate the achievements of the young players.
Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO), Baramulla, attended the ceremony along with the Vice Principal of HSS Doabgah, representatives of civil society, members of Auqaf Committee Doabgah and other stakeholders.
The winning and runner-up teams were honoured with trophies, recognising their dedication, perseverance and competitive spirit throughout the championship.
Officials appreciated the contribution of players, coaches, match officials, the host institution and community members whose collective efforts ensured the smooth execution of the tournament.
Addressing the gathering, DYSSO Baramulla praised the young athletes for their commitment and encouraged them to continue pursuing sports with discipline, resilience and passion.
He highlighted that sporting platforms at the district and provincial levels play a crucial role in nurturing confidence, leadership qualities and competitive excellence among students.
The Vice Principal of HSS Doabgah also acknowledged the successful organisation of the championship and appreciated the cooperation extended by the school administration and local community.
Following the successful conclusion of the Under-17 Girls Championship, the sporting spotlight now shifts towards the Under-19 Girls Inter-District Provincial-Level Kho-Kho Championship.
The next competition is scheduled to begin at HSS Doabgah, continuing the momentum generated by the recent tournament.
