Derby: England cricket has been hit by another off-field controversy as fast bowler Brydon Carse was reportedly involved in a late-night incident at a nightclub in Derby. According to reports, Carse was handcuffed by police following the incident but was later released without any charges being filed against him.
The incident reportedly took place at Molly Malone’s Irish Tavern in Derby, where Carse was celebrating Durham’s victory over Derbyshire in a County Championship match. Former England captain Ben Stokes and fellow Durham player Matthew Potts were also reportedly present at the venue.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that it is aware of the matter and has started looking into the incident.
“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible,” an ECB spokesperson said.

Brydon Carse is currently part of England’s squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan. However, he was not included in the playing XI for the opening Test at Headingley.
The 31-year-old pacer played for Durham in the county match and contributed with two wickets. Ben Stokes also featured in the game, scoring two half-centuries and taking seven wickets as Durham secured a big win.
The latest incident has once again put England cricketers under scrutiny. Earlier, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were involved in a nightclub-related controversy during England’s Test series against New Zealand.
The fresh controversy has raised questions over player conduct ahead of England’s second Test against Pakistan, scheduled to begin on August 27.
Carse, who also represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, has played 14 Tests, 30 ODIs and 14 T20 Internationals for England. He was sidelined during the previous IPL season due to injury.
The ECB investigation will determine whether any further action is required against the fast bowler.
