New Delhi: India have suffered an injury setback ahead of the second T20 International against New Zealand, with wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan ruled out due to a low-grade right adductor strain. The development has opened up a potential opportunity for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to feature in the playing XI.

Ishan Kishan Injury Forces Team India to Reconsider

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that Ishan Kishan picked up the injury during the first T20I. He remains under medical supervision, with no official update yet on when he is expected to return to action.

Kishan's absence presents a selection challenge for India ahead of Saturday's encounter at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The left-handed batsman was expected to play an important role in the middle order after establishing himself as a key option in India's T20 setup.

His injury had already influenced India's batting order in the opening match, with Tilak Varma promoted ahead of him.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Could Get Another Opportunity

With Kishan unavailable, Sooryavanshi has emerged as a possible replacement. The young left-hander was not included in the playing XI for the series opener after also missing the recent T20I series against the West Indies. India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had indicated before the official confirmation that Sooryavanshi could be considered if Kishan failed to recover in time. However, the final team combination remains a decision for the management.

The teenager's aggressive batting approach could offer India another attacking option at the top of the order, should he be selected.

India Aim to Build on Opening-Match Victory

India enter the second T20I with confidence after securing a four-wicket win in the series opener. The team will look to maintain its momentum while managing the injury concern. Kishan's unavailability leaves India weighing their options as they prepare for the Christchurch contest. Whether Sooryavanshi gets the nod will be one of the key selection decisions ahead of the match.
