New Delhi: MS Dhoni is set to miss Chennai Super Kings’s upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Delhi Capitals, scheduled for May 5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has stayed back in Chennai to continue his rehabilitation and has not travelled with the squad.

Recovery Still in Progress

According to team sources, Dhoni is still not match-fit and requires more time to recover fully. While his absence comes as a setback ahead of an important fixture, the team management is taking a cautious approach regarding his return.

A senior franchise official indicated that Dhoni is expected to feature at some point later in the ongoing season, offering hope to fans eager to see him back on the field.

CSK Remain in Playoff Contention

Despite Dhoni’s absence, Chennai Super Kings remain firmly in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs. The five-time champions have shown signs of resurgence in recent matches, keeping their qualification hopes alive.

With the tournament entering a crucial phase, every match carries added importance, especially for teams positioned in the middle of the table.

Tight Schedule Ahead for Chennai

Following the clash against Delhi Capitals, CSK face a packed schedule. They are set to take on Lucknow Super Giants twice in quick succession on May 10 and May 15.

The team will then conclude their league-stage campaign with matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, making the upcoming fixtures crucial for their playoff push.

Mid-Table Battle Intensifies

Currently placed sixth on the points table, CSK have won four of their nine matches and have eight points. With several teams closely packed in the standings, a win against Delhi Capitals could significantly boost their position.

As the race for the playoffs heats up, CSK will be hoping to maintain momentum even in the absence of one of their most experienced players, while awaiting Dhoni’s return later in the season.
