New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added another milestone to his remarkable IPL 2026 campaign with a blistering knock against Delhi Capitals on Sunday.
The 15-year-old opener played an aggressive innings of 46 runs from just 21 deliveries in the 62nd match of the season, giving Royals a rapid start in a crucial encounter.
Known for his fearless batting throughout the tournament, Sooryavanshi once again displayed his attacking intent by clearing the boundary ropes with ease. His innings included three sixes and several boundaries, keeping Delhi Capitals’ bowlers under pressure during the powerplay overs.

With his latest sixes, Sooryavanshi achieved a major personal milestone by surpassing Indian batter Abhishek Sharma in the list of most sixes hit by an Indian player in a single IPL season.
Abhishek had previously held the record with 42 sixes in one edition of the tournament. Sooryavanshi now has 43 sixes to his name in IPL 2026, becoming the highest Indian six-hitter in a single season at just 15 years of age.
The young batter is also steadily climbing the all-time IPL list for most sixes in a season. Former West Indies star Chris Gayle still holds the overall record with 59 maximums in a campaign, a mark that remains some distance away but is now firmly part of the discussion due to Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary form.
The innings also came at an important stage for Rajasthan Royals, who remain in contention for a playoff spot in IPL 2026. Entering the match against Delhi Capitals, the Royals were placed fifth on the points table and needed a strong performance to strengthen their qualification hopes.
Recent results from other teams have kept Rajasthan’s chances alive, making every remaining game critical. A victory over Delhi Capitals would significantly improve their position in the standings and potentially push them into the top four.
Rajasthan Royals had suffered a defeat in their previous outing and were also looking to settle scores against Delhi Capitals, who had beaten them earlier in the season.
With Sooryavanshi continuing to deliver impactful starts at the top of the order, Royals will hope the youngster’s form can guide them through the final stretch of the league stage and into the playoffs.
