New Delhi: The participation of MS Dhoni in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians remains uncertain. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has yet to feature in the ongoing season due to a calf injury.

CSK bowling coach Eric Simmons confirmed that a final decision regarding Dhoni’s availability will be taken on the morning of the match in consultation with the medical team.

Injury Concerns Continue

Dhoni has been undergoing training with the squad for the past couple of weeks but has not participated in any matches so far. He had also missed both home and away fixtures earlier in the tournament due to fitness concerns.

Although his recent presence during training sessions and travel with the squad hinted at a possible return, the team management has maintained a cautious approach, prioritising full recovery before fielding the experienced player.

High-Stakes Clash on April 23

The much-anticipated encounter between CSK and Mumbai Indians, often regarded as one of the biggest rivalries in the IPL, is scheduled for April 23. Fans have been eagerly awaiting Dhoni’s return, which could add further intensity to the contest.

However, the uncertainty around his fitness leaves his participation in doubt until the final decision is announced.

Rohit Sharma Likely to Miss Out

On the Mumbai Indians side, Rohit Sharma is also expected to miss the match. The opener has reportedly not been part of recent training sessions, raising concerns about his availability.

In his absence, Will Jacks is likely to return to the playing XI and could open the innings alongside Quinton de Kock. Team combinations may also see adjustments in the overseas lineup.

Impact on Team Strategy

The absence of key players like Dhoni and Rohit could significantly influence team strategies for both sides. While CSK may rely on its existing core, Mumbai Indians could look to reshuffle their batting order to strengthen performance.

With both teams navigating fitness concerns, the final line-ups will be closely watched ahead of the high-profile clash.
