New Delhi: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a major setback ahead of the 2026 IPL season. The team's fast bowler, Harshit Rana, has been ruled out of the entire season due to an injury. Consequently, the team has brought in Navdeep Saini as his replacement. Saini had previously gone unsold in the mini-auction, but he has now been given a second opportunity, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Why Was Harshit Rana Ruled Out?

Harshit Rana sustained an injury prior to the 2026 T20 World Cup. As a result, he was unable to participate in the World Cup and has now been ruled out of the 2026 IPL as well. This represents a significant loss for KKR, as he was a key fast bowler for the team.

Navdeep Saini Gets a Chance

KKR has now officially inducted Navdeep Saini into their squad. Saini possesses considerable IPL experience; he has played 32 matches to date and has claimed 23 wickets. He has previously played for both the Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

His express pace—which has clocked speeds of up to 152.85 km/h—could prove to be a valuable asset for the team. KKR acquired his services for a sum of ₹75 lakh.

KKR's Troubles Mount

KKR's troubles do not end there. Prior to this, fast bowler Akash Deep was also ruled out for the entire season, and Saurabh Dubey was brought in to replace him. Furthermore, Matheesha Pathirana has not yet received clearance from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board to participate. If Pathirana is also unable to play, KKR's fast-bowling department could be left significantly weakened.

Is the Team's Bowling Attack Weakened?

Due to the continuous unavailability of players, KKR's bowling attack already appears vulnerable. While Saini's arrival will undoubtedly provide some stability, questions regarding experience and current form are likely to persist. The team will now have to take the field with a new combination of players. KKR's Schedule for IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first match on March 29 against the Mumbai Indians. This will be followed by a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2. They will face off against Punjab Kings on April 6 and Lucknow Super Giants on April 9. The team's true strength will become evident in these very early matches.
