Melbourne: Italy all-rounder Ben Manenti has secured a two-year contract with Melbourne Renegades ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season, strengthening the franchise's options with both bat and ball. The 29-year-old has previously represented Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers in the BBL.

His latest deal comes after an impressive run of performances in international and domestic cricket, including a memorable campaign during Italy's first appearance at the Men's T20 World Cup. Manenti's ability to score quickly and contribute with off-spin makes him a valuable addition as the Renegades prepare for the new season.

Ben Manenti's T20 World Cup Heroics Earn Recognition

Manenti was one of Italy's standout performers during their maiden Men's T20 World Cup campaign in February. He finished as the team's leading run-scorer with 138 runs across three innings and claimed five wickets, making him Italy's second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. One of his most memorable performances came against England at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, where he smashed 60 off just 25 deliveries. His explosive innings featured six sixes and four boundaries, showcasing his ability to change the course of a T20 match in a short period.

He followed that effort with a half-century off 29 balls against Scotland. Manenti also played an important role in Italy's historic win over Nepal, returning figures of 2 for 9 with his off-spin. These performances helped raise his profile as a versatile all-rounder capable of making an impact at the highest level of T20 cricket.

Sheffield Shield Century Adds to Manenti's Momentum

Manenti continued his strong form after returning to Australian domestic cricket with South Australia. During the team's Sheffield Shield opener against Victoria, he stepped in as stand-in captain and produced a commanding batting performance. The all-rounder struck 128 runs from 112 deliveries, including a century that helped South Australia push beyond the 500-run mark in their first innings. His ability to deliver in the longer format has further demonstrated his versatility across different forms of the game. Before returning to the Australian domestic season, Manenti also featured for Rotterdam Dockers in the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League.

Ben Manenti Could Get Bigger Role in Renegades' Spin Attack

Manenti's arrival could prove particularly important following leg-spinner Adam Zampa's move to Hobart Hurricanes during the off-season. As an off-spinner who can also contribute valuable runs in the middle order, Manenti offers Melbourne an alternative spin-bowling option. His performances will determine how significant a role he plays in the team's bowling plans.

The Renegades' spin group also includes re-signed left-arm spinner Callum Stow, leg-spinner Michael Archer and New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell, giving the franchise several options to consider. Manenti's two-way contribution could provide the coaching staff with additional flexibility when selecting their playing XI.

Luke Ronchi Backs Ben Manenti's All-Round Ability

Newly appointed Melbourne Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi welcomed the signing, highlighting the Italian international's recent form and competitive approach. Ronchi said Manenti had enjoyed an outstanding period of cricket and praised his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. He also emphasised the importance of the player's character and attitude within the team environment. The signing reflects the Renegades' efforts to build a squad with greater depth and versatility ahead of BBL Season 16.

Jonny Bairstow and Other Key Players Strengthen Renegades

Alongside Manenti, Melbourne Renegades have added England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow to their batting resources. The squad also features players such as Jason Behrendorff, Josh Brown, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Ollie Peake and Will Sutherland. The combination of experienced international players, emerging talent and versatile all-rounders gives the Renegades several options as they prepare for the upcoming competition.

Melbourne Renegades to Open BBL Season 16 Against Perth Scorchers

Melbourne Renegades are scheduled to begin their BBL Season 16 campaign against defending champions Perth Scorchers on December 12. The signing of Manenti adds another dimension to their squad ahead of the tournament. Following his recent international success and strong domestic performances, the Italian all-rounder will look to make the most of his opportunity in Australia's premier T20 league.

His ability to deliver explosive batting performances and provide economical off-spin could make him an important player for the Renegades during the season.
