New Delhi: West Indies star cricketer Nicholas Pooran has retired from international cricket at the age of 29. He announced this through an Instagram post on Tuesday, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Pooran played the most T20s for West Indies. He has also scored the most runs for West Indies in this format. Pooran wrote a long note and announced his retirement.
Pooran wrote, "After much thought and reflection, I've decided to announce my retirement from international Cricket."
He further added, "This game we love has given and will continue to give so much - joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies. Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field... it's hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart."
"To the fans - thank you for your unwavering love. You lifted me in the tough moments and celebrated the good ones with unmatched passion."
"To my family, friends, and teammates - thank you for walking this journey with me. Your belief and support carried me through it all."
"Though this international chapter of my career closes, my love for West Indies Cricket will never fade. I wish the team and the region nothing but success and strength for the road ahead."
At the same time, former West Indies T20I captain Puran had earlier told about his accident that it was the most difficult 6 months of his life, but this period made him a better person.
He said that the patience with which I took successes, I also learned to take failures with the same patience. I learned not to take anything lightly in life. This experience taught me to value my girlfriend Alyssa (whom he later married) even more. I started praying a little more, started believing a little more, started asking for strength to overcome each day.
Pooran did rehab and won everyone's heart by making a great comeback on the cricket field. Pooran, who could never stand on his feet, proved that everything is possible if you have courage. His story has become a source of inspiration for many youth today. His comeback is not just for sports, but teaches us to never give up in life.
