New Delhi: After getting major success in the Test series as captain, Shubman Gill is likely to lead Team India in ODIs.
Media reports are claiming that Gill may soon be appointed as the captain of India's ODI team. Recently, after Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket, Gill was handed the captaincy in the Test series against England. Now speculations are being made that the captaincy can also go to Gill's hands in the ODI format, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Although Rohit Sharma has not yet retired from ODIs, the issue is constantly trending on social media that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working on future plans in ODIs.
According to reports, keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup, the team management and selectors are considering Gill as the future captain. In such a situation, it is possible that Shubman Gill will be given the captaincy in the next ODI series to be held in October.
At present, Team India was on tour to Bangladesh in August, in which ODI and T20 series were to be played. However, this tour has now been canceled. In such a situation, now India's next ODI series will be against Australia in October 2025. After that, at the end of the year, Team India also has to play an ODI series against South Africa.
Shubman Gill has so far scored 2,775 runs in 55 matches at an average of 59.04. He has 8 centuries and 15 half-centuries to his name, which shows his consistent performance. Looking at this performance, the selectors and team management are looking at him as a long-term leader.

Although there has been no official statement from the BCCI in this regard yet, cricket experts believe that Gill is gradually being handed over the responsibility of leadership so that he can prepare as Rohit Sharma's successor.
Rohit Sharma, who led Team India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, is now in the final phase of his career. In such a situation, it is important for the selectors to prepare a new captain as part of a long-term plan. Shubman Gill's calm nature, excellent batting record and youthful energy make him suitable for this role.
