Spain are world champions once again. A clinical extra-time strike from Ferran Torres sealed a 1-0 victory over defending champions Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, ending Lionel Messi's dream of retaining the trophy and handing La Roja their second World Cup title, 16 years after their triumph in South Africa.
After 105 minutes of unrelenting pressure, Ferran Torres made everything count in the 106th minute, with Nico Williams feeding the ball into his way. The Barcelona striker showed no nerve as he topped the ball past Emiliano Martínez, igniting wild celebrations from Spanish players and fans alike.
The tie seemed set for a penalty shoot-out until Spain pulled out the moment they had been waiting for all evening.
Nico Williams cunningly headed the ball into the box, where Ferran Torres arrived when the Barcelona winger was ready to clinically poke it past Martínez. The goal paid off for Spain's attacking superiority after they had imposed their will over large segments of the game without ever converting chances.
The goal was enough to break the deadlock as Spain was solid to claim the FIFA World Cup trophy for the second time since 2010.
