According to media reports, the tournament could begin on February 7th, with the final scheduled for March 8th. This window has been shared by the ICC with all participating cricket boards.
The biggest highlight of this mega event is the India-Pakistan clash. According to reports, the two teams could face each other on the cricket field at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15th.
Any ICC tournament match between India and Pakistan is one of the most-watched events worldwide. All matches between the two countries are scheduled to be played at neutral venues until 2027, so this time Sri Lanka will host the India-Pakistan match.
India will enter the 2026 T20 World Cup as the defending champions. Team India won the title last year in Barbados.
Two options have emerged for the final:
Ahmedabad, if India reaches the final
Colombo, if Pakistan becomes the finalist
According to the agreement between the ICC, BCCI, and PCB, India-Pakistan matches will be held on neutral grounds only. The same rule will apply to the final.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have finalized a list of potential venues for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
5 Possible Venues for India
Ahmedabad – Narendra Modi Stadium
Delhi – Arun Jaitley Stadium
Kolkata – Eden Gardens
Chennai – MA Chidambaram Stadium
Mumbai – Wankhede Stadium
3 Possible Venues for Sri Lanka
Colombo – R. Premadasa Stadium
Pallekele – Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
Galle – Galle International Stadium
These eight venues are being considered as the primary options for the match schedule. The ICC is expected to release the official schedule in the next few weeks.
India will be playing on home soil with the intention of defending the title. The selection of large grounds like Ahmedabad and Mumbai indicates that India is preparing to garner more support for Team India in front of its home crowd. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's pitches are considered to be conducive for spin bowling, which will make this tournament even more exciting.
