New Delhi: India has been crowned champions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The team lifted the trophy for the third time, making history on home soil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian team on social media, highlighting their skill, determination, and teamwork. He said the win filled every Indian with pride and celebrated the players’ courage and consistency throughout the tournament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also applauded the team, noting their exceptional performance and dedication that brought immense honor to the country. President Draupadi Murmu expressed admiration for the players, coaching staff, and management, emphasizing India’s historic achievement of back-to-back T20 World Cup wins.
India posted a massive 256 runs, led by Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Sharma scored a blazing 52 off just 21 balls, while Samson smashed 89 runs, including 8 sixes and 5 fours. Ishan Kishan’s quick 54 off 25 balls added momentum, putting New Zealand under immense pressure.
