Asian Games: India clinch three medals in sailing

India on Friday clinched three medals, two silver and one bronze, in the sailing events of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

Jakarta: India on Friday clinched three medals, two silver and one bronze, in the sailing events of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

In 49er sailing event, the Indian pair of Varsha Gautham and Sweta Shervegar bagged the silver medal in the women's category with a total of 44 points, while Varun Thakkar and Ganapathy Chengappa settled for the bronze medal with a final point count of 53 in the men's category.

The Japanese pair of Shingen Furuya and Shinji Hachiyama finished on the top of the podium with a total of 49 points followed by Bonjin Chae and Dongwook Kim of South Korea with a score of 50.5 points in the men's 49er sailing event.

In the women's event, Singapore's Min Kimberly and Rui Qi Cecilia bagged a gold medal with 15 points, the Thailand pair of Nichpa Waiwai and Kamonchanok Klahan finished at the third spot as they got 46 points.

In Open laser 4.7 sailing event, India's Harshita Tomar won a bronze medal for the country with a score of 74 points.

While Muhammad Fauzi of Malaysia claimed the top-podium finish with a total of 25 points, Chinese sailor Jianxiong Wang settled for silver with 66 points.

In Canoe, India's Prakant Sharma and Jamesboy Singh Oinam have qualified for men's 200m double (C2) finals.

India's total medal tally at the prestigious event now stands at 62-- thirteen gold, 22 silver and 27 bronze. (ANI)
