New Delhi: Amidst the news of request for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) by Renuka Kumar, Juthika Patankar, Vikas Gothalwal, another 2008 batch IAS officer Vidya Bhushan has also sought voluntary retirement.

At present, he is posted as MD of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam. Vidya Bhushan's wife Alankrita Singh is an IPS officer. Renuka Kumar, Juthika Patankar, Vikas Gothalwal have applied for VRS but the state government has not yet given its approval.

Referring to the rules and regulations, no-objection certificates have been sought from various departments, as well as whether any vigilance case is pending against them. However the real reason is that the government deliberately wants to delay the approval so that officers are discouraged to seek VRS.

But the real question is: Why one after the other IAS officers want VRS.

Besides, Rajiv Agarwal, a senior IAS of 1993 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre, had also taken VRS sometime back and joined a corporate company. There is also a buzz around that too much political and government interference in the functioning of the bureaucracy is also a major reason behind the increasing cases of VRS.
