Delhi HC issues notice to Atishi, ECI on petition against her election victory

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Ex-Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Election Commission of India (ECI) over a plea challenging her election victory from Kalkaji Assembly seat. The petition accused the AAP leader and her election agents of corrupt practices during the polls.

Besides, the court also issues notice to Delhi Police and the returning officer of the assembly seat.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, the court asked the respondents to submit their responses to the petition and posted the matter for July 30 for further hearing.

The ECI counsel and the returning officer, however, said they couldn't have been made parties to such petition as per law.

The court noted it would be open for them to mention their objections in their replies.

Justice Jyoti Singh also issued direction to the ECI, the returning officer and the police to preserve all the records related to Kalkaji constituency election and said the court could seek a modification of its order in the future.

The plea was filed by Kamaljit Singh Duggal and Ayush Rana who accused Atishi and her election agents of corrupt practices during the polls.

She won Kalkaji constituency in the assembly election by a margin of 3,500 votes after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba.
