Mumbai/ 3 August 2016. A bridge at Mahad over Savitri River in Konkan region on the Mumbai-Goa Highway collapsed late last night bringing traffic to a halt.
Several vehicles are feared to have been swept away in the River. There are no reports of the whereabouts of 22 people missing from the two buses.
Raigad District Collector Sheetal Ugale said, “Two buses are missing and a few other vehicles are feared to have been swept away.”
Maharshtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered speedy operations and said in a tweet that the Collector has confirmed that one-way traffic is now resumed on the new bridge, parallel to the old bridge.
An NDRF team from Pune has arrived at the spot for search and rescue operations.
