Beas, Punjab/ 18 May 2016. A 11.5-MW rooftop solar power plant, the largest of its kind in the world, costing Rs.139 crore, was inaugurated by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at Dera Baba Jaimal Singh here.
While addressing the gathering Badal said this plant would motivate other states to establish such projects for clean and green energy.
Plant capacity
Punjab renewable energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that the plant can generate sufficient energy to power approximately 8,000 homes. The plant could bring down about four lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the next 25 years, he added.
Radha Soami Satsang project
The solar plant is installed on about 42 acres of open shed rooftop meant for 'sangat' (followers) by Radha Soami Satsang Beas Educational and Environmental Society (RSSBEES), in technical collaboration with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA).
