Lucknow: On the occasion of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's 50th birthday, functionaries and workers of the party in Varanasi celebrated it on Thursday with a tomato-shaped cake. They also distributed tomatoes to highlight its soaring price across the country.
"Today is our Party president Akhilesh Yadav’s birthday, which we always celebrate. However, this time, we are celebrating it by distributing tomatoes to highlight the inflation in the country," a party functionary said.

Retail prices of tomato have skyrocketed to a high of Rs 100 per kg in some parts of India as supplies were hit due to heavy rains.
The price of the tomato has crossed Rs 100 per kg in Bengaluru and Raipur. On Wednesday, the tomato prices crossed Rs 100/kg in Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai.
