India Open: Sindhu to face Zhang Beiwen in title clash

New Delhi: Rio Olympics silver-medallist P.V. Sindhu will aim to win her second consecutive India Open title as she faces Zhang Beiwen of USA in the final showdown at the Siri Fort Sports Complex on Sunday.

Indian heavyweight Sindhu reached the final with an impressive 21-13, 21-15 win over third seed Ratchanok Inthanon of Thailand in a 48-minute long contest.

Earlier, Indian mixed doubles duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost to Denmark's Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen but smiles on the faces of home crowd were back when Sindhu showcased masterclass to beat two-time former champion Intanon.

Sindhu's final opponent Zhang made it to the summit clash after defeating Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi 14-21, 21-12, 21-19.

Zhang is the world No. 11 and is seeded five in the tournament.

It will be the fifth meeting between World Championship silver-medallist Sindhu and Zhang.
