PM Modi-led panel to announce new Election Commissioner on this date

Current Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is set to retire on Feb 18. Read further on Dynamite News:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to chair a crucial meeting on Feb 17 to finalise the name of the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), reports Dynamite News correspondent. 

Notably, the outgoing Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will demit the office on Feb 18. 

The panel will also comprise the Law Minister Arjun Meghwal and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, ensuring a bipartisan approach to the selection process.

Probables 
According to information, many officials are in gray to become CEC. It is said that the government also has got many names for this post. But Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is being considered frontrunner for the post. However, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu's name is also there. Both of them are currently working as Election Commissioners.

LS Polls & J&K Assembly Elections 
Under the leadership of Rajiv Kumar, the Election Commission successfully conducted the Lok Sabha elections held last year. Apart from this, assembly elections were also held peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir after more than a decade under his leadership.
