Chennai: In a major crackdown on the cybercrime network, the Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu police conducted the Phase-2 of “Operation Thiraineekku-I” and arrested 136 cyber criminals across the State.
These criminals are linked to 159 cases registered by the Cyber Crime Police Stations of Tamil Nadu and the Operation was launched from June 2, a CCW release said here on Thursday.
Bank mule agents have been identified in this Operation and out of which six have been secured busting a gang who are behind 30+ shell companies and 100+ operating mule agents gang.
These arrests represent a significant victory in dismantling organized cybercrime in the state.
During the “Operation Thiraineekku-II” 125 mobile phones, 304 bank accounts, 88 cheque books, 107 ATM debit/credit cards, 35 desktops, etc, were seized.
This operation stands as one of the largest of its kind in India, effectively striking at the backbone of the cybercrime network. Further investigation into the cybercrime network is ongoing.

Tamil Nadu Police are analyzing digital evidence and interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover additional layers of the criminal operations throughout India.
Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend other members of the network, recover defrauded funds, and identify their broader links to nationwide cybercrime activities. It may be recalled that the Phase-1 of the conducted in December 2024 and has successfully arrested 76 cyber criminals all across the state.
The Operation-2 was planned and executed across all Districts and cities of Tamil Nadu under the guidance of Dr. Sandeep Mittal, ADGP, Cyber Crime Wing, ensuring seamless coordination and real-time monitoring.
This large-scale operation was based on accused profiling by scientific investigation by Cyber Crime Wing teams through NCRP Portal of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Union Ministry of Home Affairs and also through bank fund trail linkages established by financial data analysis of cybercriminal networks.
The Special teams are constituted across the State in every Districts and Cities who operated from the Master Control Room at CCW Headquarters leading to arrest of 136 cyber criminals across Tamil Nadu.
