The stampede, which occurred on September 27, claimed the lives of 41 people and injured over 60 others. Authorities reported that the disaster unfolded when the crowd surged uncontrollably as Vijay arrived at the rally in Veluswamypuram.
The event had reportedly drawn nearly 30,000 people, far exceeding the venue’s capacity. Investigations suggest that overcrowding, inadequate crowd control, lack of essential facilities like food and water, and power failures contributed significantly to the tragedy. The incident has been described as one of the deadliest accidents at a political rally in recent Tamil Nadu history.

Several party officials, including district secretary Mathiyazhagan and general secretaries Bussy Anand and Nirmal Sekar, have been named in the FIRs, and investigations are ongoing.

TVK had earlier announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh for each deceased victim and Rs 2 lakh for those injured.
