Meta Pushes Privacy Boundaries With New AI Chat Feature
New Delhi: Meta, the company behind platforms like Meta Platforms Inc., has launched a new feature called “Incognito Chat with Meta AI” inside WhatsApp. The update is designed to give users a more private way to interact with artificial intelligence for sensitive topics such as finance, health and work-related queries.
The feature is being introduced in WhatsApp and is aimed at addressing growing concerns about data privacy in AI conversations.
According to Meta, Incognito Chat creates a temporary and private AI session where user conversations are not stored or saved. Once the chat ends, the interaction disappears completely.
The company emphasised that even Meta itself cannot access these chats. The system is built on end-to-end encryption principles, ensuring that user inputs remain confidential during and after the session.
This move comes at a time when users increasingly rely on AI chatbots for personal and professional assistance, raising concerns about who can access or store their data.
Meta has introduced “Private Processing technology” to handle user queries securely. This system ensures that all messages are processed in a protected environment without being visible to external parties, including the company.
The focus, according to Meta, is to strengthen trust in AI tools by ensuring complete privacy control remains with users.
Along with Incognito Chat, Meta also announced an upcoming feature called “Side Chat.” This will allow users to interact with Meta AI while continuing their ongoing conversations without switching screens.
The assistant will understand context from the chat but will remain non-intrusive, offering suggestions, summaries, or help when needed.
Both Incognito Chat and Side Chat will be rolled out gradually over the coming months on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. Meta said more technical details will be shared as the rollout expands globally.
