New YouTube Feature Update: YouTube search just changed, here’s what’s Different

YouTube introduces AI-powered search carousel for US Premium users, showing video descriptions with thumbnails to help users preview content before watching.

New Delhi: YouTube has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based search feature on its platform. This feature has been named AI Search Carousel. It aims to provide better and more accurate information to users so that they can understand the content of the video even before watching it, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

How does this new feature work?

According to YouTube, this new AI search carousel feature is currently made available to some YouTube Premium users in the US. When a user searches for shopping, travel, or a particular place, he sees a new interface on the search results page. It has a large video clip at the top and some small video thumbnails below it. Also, every video is accompanied by a text description that has been generated by AI.

This description summarizes the main points and content of that video. This makes it easier for users to decide which video they want to watch and which not.

Which users will get this feature?

• This AI search carousel is currently available only to YouTube Premium users.
• This feature is currently working only for English-language videos on Android and iOS devices in the US.
• This trial will run till July 30, 2025, after which YouTube can launch it for other countries and users as well.
• An AI-based conversational tool also became available.

YouTube has also expanded its conversational AI feature with this. Now this feature has been made available to some non-premium users as well. Users can use this tool by tapping on the Sparkle icon appearing in the line of Like, Share, and Download buttons on the video screen.

This AI feature is based on Google Gemini. Through this, users can ask questions related to the video or get recommendations of other related videos. Currently it is working only on Android devices.

YouTube said in its blog post that this feature has been introduced to improve user experience. The search carousel feature is beneficial for those users who want to quickly understand the content of the video and want to decide without watching whether the video is useful for them or not.
