New Delhi: OpenAI is reportedly preparing a new large language model (LLM) named Garlic, aimed at strengthening its position in the AI race against competitors like Google Gemini 3 and Anthropic Opus 4.5. The model is being developed with a focus on advanced reasoning and coding capabilities, areas where OpenAI has faced recent challenges.
According to the media reports, internal tests of Garlic suggest strong performance, and the model could be officially released as GPT 5.2 or GPT 5.5 in the first half of 2026.
OpenAI has been trailing behind rivals in multiple AI benchmarks, particularly in coding and reasoning tasks.
