New Delhi: OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT beyond individual users by hiring a dedicated product manager to build AI experiences for families, parents, caregivers and older adults, according to a recent job listing.
The San Francisco-based role will focus on creating trust-focused consumer products designed for households, reflecting the changing demographics of ChatGPT users.
The hiring comes as ChatGPT sees rapid growth among older users. According to Sensor Tower data, users aged 35 and above now account for 31% of ChatGPT's audience, up from 26% a year ago.
Meanwhile, the share of users aged 18 to 24 has declined from 34% to 29%, indicating that the platform is increasingly attracting working professionals, parents and senior users.
OpenAI is also responding to rising adoption among parents. Nearly one in four smartphone users who are parents in the United States reportedly used ChatGPT during the second quarter of 2026.
While Google's Gemini currently has the highest reach among parents, ChatGPT continues to expand its presence in the segment, highlighting growing demand for AI tools tailored to family needs.
The new product manager will be responsible for developing AI experiences that prioritise trust, safety and usability for families and caregivers.
The move comes as studies show parents may underestimate how often children use generative AI. Recent survey findings suggest significantly more children are using AI tools than parents believe.
The announcement also coincides with changes to OpenAI's leadership. Head of Safety Systems Johannes Heidecke has reportedly left the company, with safety operations now being reorganised under Vice President of Research and Safety Mia Glaese.
The restructuring reflects OpenAI's continued focus on strengthening AI safety while expanding ChatGPT to new user groups.
