OpenAI To Give Free Advance Model To 1,00,000 Researchers, Know Everything Inside

Washington: US-based AI giant OpenAI has rolled out a new program, ChatGPT for Academic Researchers. The newly introduced program will give 1,00,000 researchers at selected Universities and institutions free access to its most advanced and latest AI models. The core idea behind this program is that researchers use these tools to chase the questions they already know best rather than OpenAI deciding which scientific problem matter.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote on X regarding the new program that,  "So excited for this. Very close to models that will significantly accelerate scientific discovery; the best way to do this is for us to empower scientists, not to try to figure out everything ourselves. We all deserve the benefits."

The company is rolling out this program in stages. The company is starting with 10,000 researchers this summer, with institutions such as the Institute for Advanced Study and cole normale suprieure already onboard. The company will scale up its target to onboard 1,00,000 researchers by 2027. Each researcher will get access to OpenAI’s frontier models, consisting of GPT-5.6 Sol Pro.

As per the circular of the program, the researchers won’t just be typing questions or queries into a chatbot either. Researchers will get access to more than 75 specialised life science skills ranging from genetics to drug discovery, along with tools that connect to scientific literature, genomic databases, satellite imagery, and computational notebook.
