New Delhi: Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a temporary outage in India on Monday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts between around 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM IST.

Users reported that the homepage failed to load, timelines appeared blank, and feeds were not refreshing on both the app and website. Many took to other social media platforms to express frustration as notifications and profiles also became inaccessible.

Downdetector Shows Spike in Complaints

According to outage tracking website Downdetector, there was a sudden spike in reports during the disruption window, indicating a widespread issue rather than isolated glitches. The surge in complaints suggested a possible server-side problem affecting users across regions in India.

While the platform resumed normal operations after about 30 minutes, there was no official statement detailing the cause of the disruption at the time of reporting.

What Could Have Caused the Outage?

Though the exact reason remains unclear, such outages are often linked to server overloads, backend technical glitches, or routine maintenance work.

One possibility is heavy traffic. When major events or breaking news trends online, a sudden surge in user activity can strain servers, temporarily impacting performance. Technical maintenance or updates may also lead to brief service interruptions.

Network or DNS-related issues could also affect accessibility for some users, even if the platform is functioning normally elsewhere. In certain cases, device-specific problems such as outdated app versions or corrupted cache data may prevent proper loading.

Service Restored, Questions Remain

The platform was restored within half an hour, and services appeared to function normally afterward. However, the brief outage once again highlighted how dependent users have become on social media platforms for real-time updates and communication.

With no official clarification yet, users are left speculating about the cause of the disruption, even as the platform returns to normal.
