The air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana to comply with the directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management in Delhi-NCR and sought compliance reports from them to be submitted before the Court by Wednesday.
The air quality in the national capital on Monday morning remained in the “very poor” category with overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 370, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the air quality crisis in the national capital calls for a scientific study and suggested a statistical-based model on wind patterns to take advance measures to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR before the situation deteriorates.
Delhi’s air quality improved from “very poor” to “poor” and the air quality index (AQI) read 276 at 9 am on Tuesday with favourable wind speed, up to 25 kmph, aiding dispersion of pollutants over the two last days.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Thursday said that Delhi’s contribution to air pollution is 31 per cent and the remaining 69 per cent of the pollution is from outside Delhi, adding that it is impossible to curb pollution without a joint-action plan by the Centre.
Delhi-NCR recorded its air quality in the very poor category on Wednesday morning and no major improvement is likely until Sunday, authorities said.
