Supreme Court on Monday refused to give an urgent hearing to the plea filed over alleged police atrocities during protests against the Anti-Sterlite plant in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken cognisance of the situation and has sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government on the police firing and the prevailing situation in Thoothukudi.
One person was killed and three others got injured earlier yesterday as fresh violence broke out in Anna Nagar, thus taking the death toll of the Sterlite protest incident to
he protest has been going on for months now and turned violent on Tuesday when protestors were not allowed to march up to the plant. Agitated protestors then started to pelt stones and toppled police vehicles.
