As many as 100 chickens were found dead at a poultry farm in Vehloli village of Shahapur tehsil in Thane district, said Thane District Magistrate and Collector Rajesh J Narvekar on Friday.
Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate, Varanasi, has said that action will be taken against boatmen who did not follow the administration’s guidelines and allowed tourists on their boats to feed the birds amid the bird flu.

The Animal Husbandry Department of Delhi government on Monday confirmed cases of bird flu in the national capital.
The Kanpur Zoological Park has been shut down until further orders in the view of the bird flu outbreak.
As many as 17 crows were found dead at a park in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3, two at a DDA park in Dwarka, and 16 in Hastsal village of West district on Saturday, following which the Delhi government collected samples to investigate for avian influenza that has been seen in several parts of the country.
After many states reported cases of bird flu, the Maharashtra government has issued a red alert in the state and asked the district officials to keep a strict vigil, said state’s Animal Husbandry Minister Sunil Kedar on Thursday.
Considering the possibility of spread of avian influenza virus or bird flu to humans and other domesticated animals and birds, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Tuesday directed all states and Union Territories (UTs) to take all possible steps for containing the spread of the disease.
With over 2,400 birds dead so far in Himachal Pradesh, the state has been put on high alert for avian influenza and officials are monitoring the situation according to state forest minister Rakesh Pathania.
