Markets in the Thursday afternoon trade extended gains to 400 points after a flat start.
Gold prices on Thursday rose to their highest level with gains from the previous day, as the dollar remained subdued.
The domestic currency strengthened by 8 paise to 64.52 against the dollar. Sensex surged 234.83 points, or 0.74 per cent, to hit an all-time high of 31,595.46.
The rupee gained by 5 paise to 64.73 against the US dollar.
The rupee edging up 3 paise to 64.56 against US dollar.
The rupee gains by another 5 paise to 64.25 against the US dollar in early trade.
The domestic currrency firmed up 2 paise to 64.31 against the dollar in early trade.
BSE Sensex resumed higher at 29,737.73 and advanced to 29,926.94, before settling at fresh closing peak of 29,910.22 – gain of 289.72 points or 0.98 per cent. Nifty ended with a gain of 64.10 points, or 0.70 per cent, at new closing peak of 9,237.85.
