The Congress on Friday fielded senior party leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar from Sasaram-SC Lok Sabha seat of Bihar while Ranjeet Ranjan has been fielded from Supaul Lok Sabha seat of Bihar.
Presidential counting underway in parliament, first phase of counting over. NDA’s presidential candidate leading with 60,683 votes and UPA’s candidate Kumar at 22,941.
“I believe in the ideology I’ve fought for and I believe in the voice of conscience. Let us see how much it prevails,” Kumar said.
The counting of votes for the presidential election was underway here today with the numbers stacked in favour of the ruling NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind over opposition’s candidate Meira Kumar.
Presidential counting will take place today, following which the fourteenth President of India will be announced.
According to Lok Sabha secretary general Anoop Mishra, who is also the returning officer of the election, the counting would begin at 11 AM. First, the ballot box of Parliament House would be opened, and then, the ballot boxes received from states would be counted on alphabetical basis.
As the fight for the post of the President is underway, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday stated that Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Member of Parliament (MPs) should vote for who their conscience speaks for.
“Yeh vichardhara ki ladai hai, mere liye yehi hai,” Meira Kumar told media at Sadaqat Ashram.
Meira Kumar expressed gratitude to all the political parties for nominating her for the post of the President and thanked them for showing trust in her.
