The meeting comes in the wake of the VB G RAM G Bill receiving Parliament’s approval during the recently concluded Winter Session of Parliament. The new legislation aims to provide a revamped framework for rural employment and livelihood guarantees.
The opposition alleged that the government was deliberately changing the name of MGNREGA, which included Mahatma Gandhi’s name, and that the BJP brought this bill to remove that name.
Priyanka Gandhi said MGNREGA has been successful in providing employment to rural India and strengthening the rural economy for the past 20 years. She said that all political parties in the House gave their full consent.
