The percentage of voters punching in None of the Above or NOTA option in recently-concluded Maharashtra assembly elections has seen a rise compared to 2014 polls.
The Supreme Court today said the option of none of the above cannot be permitted in Rajya Sabha elections.
The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of election process, if the votes of NOTA were higher than the candidate.
The apex court also pulled up the Gujarat Congress, which filed plea seeking stay on NOTA, for raising question over the use of NOTA option and said as to why it is raising the issue so late when the Election Commission had issued the notification in January 2014.
Congress Party moved Supreme Court against ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) option in Rajya Sabha elections. The court is likely to hear the matter on Thursday.
