A Delhi Court on Monday granted three days remand of all accused to Delhi Police Crime Branch, arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl.
The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the constitutional validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act, 2018, and said a court can grant anticipatory bail only in cases where a prima facie case is not made out.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing to April 30 on the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of amendment brought in SC/ST Act.
Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Wednesday welcomed the directives of the apex court on the case pertaining to the reservation in job promotion for the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that no one will be arrested without an investigation under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act, in the state.
The call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ given by several groups against the amendments in the SC/ST Act evoked a good response in Rajasthan where many shops and business establishments, schools and other educational institutions remained closed on Thursday.
“The government has already approved the restoration of the original bill yesterday. We will introduce the bill and want to pass it in this session of parliament,” he said in Lok Sabha.
“We have always been sensitive towards SCs & STs. The state government, just like Centre, will appeal against the decision of Supreme Court. Till then the order (to strictly implement the Supreme Court order) by Police headquarters stands cancelled,” Singh said.
The apex court had, on March 20, introduced the provision of anticipatory bail in the act while directing that there would be no automatic arrest on any complaint filed under the law.
