

Jamaluddin alias Changur, arrested from Balrampur, along with his four close associates, had run a racket of illegal conversion in various districts of Purvanchal. Under this racket, many people were converted by luring them. After a case was registered in Azamgarh under this matter, the STF named Changur and his associates in the investigation.
Arrested accussed Changur Baba
Lucknow: Jamaluddin alias Changur, arrested from Balrampur, along with his four close associates, had run a racket of illegal conversion in various districts of Purvanchal. Many incidents took place in this case in the last two years. In which a case of illegal conversion was also registered in Azamgarh, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
According to the information received by the Dynamite News correspondent, the STF gathered strong evidence against Changur and his associates, after which they were named.
Complaint of illegal conversion in Azamgarh
On May 25, 2023, a case of illegal conversion was registered at Devgaon police station in Azamgarh. 18 people were named in this case, including Changur's close associates Balrampur resident Mohammad Sabroz, Rashid, Shahabuddin and Gonda resident Ramzan. Apart from this, many people from Azamgarh and other districts were also involved in this racket.
Four accused named in STF investigation
Chhangur's name did not come up in this investigation initially, but when the STF started investigating the case seriously, the four accused were understood to be Sabroz, Rashid, Shahabuddin and Ramzan and were named in November 2024. After the arrest of Changur, the network of the accused was revealed, which revealed many important information about the expansion of the racket.
Misuse of religious symbols in the method of conversion
The police had received information about illegal conversion in village Chirkihit of Devgaon police station area of Azamgarh. During the investigation, it was found that some people were singing Qawwali and reciting speeches against Hinduism by placing a trident at a shrine-like place, offering flowers and garlands on it.
During this, people of the Hindu community were being converted by luring them. The police arrested 18 accused on the spot, but the police could not reach the mastermind of this racket, Changur.
ED investigation and financial details
ED has collected details of seven bank accounts of Chhangur's close associate Naveen Rohra. Apart from this, ED is also collecting information about the properties purchased in the name of Chhangur and his close associates in Balrampur and surrounding districts. This investigation may gain momentum after the property details received from the sub-registrar offices.
At present, ED is yet to obtain information about more accounts, which will help in investigating the case in more detail.
